The original company was established in 1956 as a small enterprise processing
mainly Granadillas and Oranges. The company name, Gran-or (Pty) Ltd
was registered in 1957.
In 1972 a Swiss company, Passi AG bought shares in Gran-or which opened
the door for international trade and the company’s name was changed
to Granor Passi (Pty) Ltd. To date 9% of the shares are still held abroad.
In 1974, two brothers, Jan and Henk van der Berg bought the company and managed it for 27 years. In 2001 their shares were bought by LG Fruit Cooperative who had become a shareholder in 1985. This shareholding now stands at 91%. After 1985 the company experienced a steady growth as a result of an increased supply of fruit to the processing facilities, thus ensuring existing markets were more efficiently serviced.
